Understanding Addictions
Addiction is a complex disease that affects the brain. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), drugs rewire the human brain and makes quitting very difficult.
Addiction is seen as a moral decay and is therefore stigmatized. While most people see it as lack of willpower or spirituality, addiction is indeed a medical condition which requires professional help. Addiction affects the brain and prolonged exposure and increased activity in a certain drug or process can lead to more serious issues in the long run.
